Whether you are struggling to reduce weight on your own or are following a structured diet plan, things is staying motivated. That’s why it is important to plan ahead to always be prepared with lots of nutritious food to eat daily. Not being prepared often means resorting to fast food or pizza, which can make you feel defeated. Luckily, you can lose weight and keep it off by incorporating these tips.
Planning ahead
Planning ahead means always having a few days worth of healthy snacks and meals on hand. Stocking up on fresh produce, low fat cheese, whole grains and healthy snacks as well as lean protein and nonfat milk is a great way to start. Choose lower calorie versions of your favorite foods to have as an occasional splurge.
Enjoy Your Favorite Foods On Occasion
It is really important not to totally cut out your favorite treats. The items that I refuse to give up are half and half (I don’t like the fat free version) mayonnaise, regular salad dressing and even the occasional soda. To me it is worth the extra calories to allow myself these things in moderation.
Fiber as Part of a Healthy Weight Loss Program
Fiber is often recommended to avoid constipation but did you know it is also an important part of a healthy diet plan? Not only does fiber help fill you up but studies show that those who are on a high fiber diet actually absorb less calories from the food they eat. Adults should aim for approximately 25 to 35 grams each day. Good sources of fiber include fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains such as whole wheat bread, brown rice and oatmeal. If you do have trouble getting enough fiber each day consider adding an all natural fiber supplement. Just be sure that when you do add more fiber to your diet you start out slowly so that your body has time to adjust. You should also be sure you drink enough water to help the fiber do its job.
Don’t Forget to Get Some Exercise
Experts will always tell you that diet and exercise is both important but for some of us it isn’t easy to get to the gym. For example, you may be a stay at home mom with small children. The good news is there are there are things that you can do at home to help you burn more calories. When house cleaning turn on some music, which will encourage you to move more. in the evening when you are watching TV be sure to get up during the commercials and walk in place. you can also invest in a pedometer and wear it each day. Health experts recommend getting at least 10,000 steps every day. The first few days you may notice that you don’t get anywhere near that number so be creative and find ways to move more. I get in plenty of extra steps while I take care of laundry. How? Instead of folding a all of the clothes and putting them away I fold and put away a few at a time. It may take longer but it’s worth it. And if you have stairs that will benefit you even more.
